Safety while using ladders is being emphasised so much because falls are the leading cause of death among the worker population. Most of the time, all safety norms are violated by the victims leading to severe injuries and sometimes even death. The purpose of a safety ladder is to provide safe access between levels in all parts of the building. Ladders are provided with features such as a ladder-up post, a self-closing gate, an anti-climb safety solution, and a hatch. A step over unit gives safe and flexible access to floors of different widths and heights while keeping the worker safe at all times with enclosing handrails.

Features of a Safety Ladder

A safety ladder is provided with treads much like a ship’s ladder and an inclination of 60–75 degrees. The fixed vertical ladders have hoops or a cage for fall protection. They can also be fitted with a ladder safety track or rail or a safety line specifically for vertical ladders. The safety hoops and cages ensure that the user does not fall down the ladder. Half hoops at the base of the ladder ensure there is safety even as he climbs the ladder. This feature is especially needed when the ladder is located at a stairwell or adjacent to a fragile surface or roof edge.

Adhering To Government Regulations

Manufacturers have come up with many other safety features for the protection of workers as they work on ladders. A safety ladder can have a ladder up post located at the head of the ladder enabling the user to climb up and get down safely from an upper roof. Unwanted access to the ladder is prevented with the use of anti-climb ladder guard and a bottom hoop cover. Safety ladders have to adhere to government regulations such as BS EN 1090–1 and other regulations.

Step Over Unit for Safe Access

A step over unit ensures the safety of personnel in construction sites and other busy areas where they have to step over cable trays, pipe work, ducting, parapet walls, and gutters. It is a safe way to access and get over obstructions on the roof or similar places. It is like a bridge over obstacles and can be used in any kind of environment. The step over unit is available off the shelf but can be adjusted on site according to the requirements. It is available as Up and Onto or Up and Over Stairs with different kinds of platforms so that you can clear the obstruction safely.

Uses of Step Over Units

A step over unit is built to specifications and adhering to government safety regulations. Once it has been installed, there are clear walking paths to ensure the safety of workers using it. It is only placed on structures that can bear its weight safely. Step over units is also used for the maintenance of large vehicles such as lorries, trains, and buses. It is used for the repair and maintenance of aircraft. You need these units to access tall shelving units in warehouses or AC units on a roof. Step-over units are a safe option; they are flexible and practical.
